Cooking Reflection

Personal Unit Overview: In this unit, I've learned about Spanish cuisines. Each of us had to pick a Spanish dish and give a presentation to the class to convince why we should cook those dishes. Eventually, my dish—paella—won all the votes, and that's what we ended up cooking. Prior to cooking paella, we learned a lot of vocabulary used in cooking such as instructions, cooking materials, and ingredients.

Enduring Understandings: Why is it important to learning about cooking in Spanish?

It is important because it increases our understanding of the Spanish culture. For example, when I was making a proposal presentation on the Spanish food that I wanted to cook (paella), I learned that it originated in Valencia, Spain, and every year, there’s a huge paella fest where thousands of Spanish people gather and have a paella cooking competition. When I found out it was first created in Valencia, I finally understood why there’s so much seafood in paella.

Strengths: My strength is forming sentences and articulating them well.

Weaknesses: I was very comfortable and confident throughout this unit, and didn't have any problems at all.
